Dome II

Ok, so now some colors here... quick and dirt duotone splatters... this is the color approach for the story, in this way I'm able to set the tone for different scenes and at the same time not spending too much time coloring.

Situating your audience

Respect your audience... when telling a story is very important, I'd say obvious, to tell them where the action takes place... make your storytelling as clear as possible avoiding confusion and miss interpretation... let the scenario set the mood to reinforce your message. This is a big frame and probably will spend the next few days on this... I'll keep you posted.

Pieces of new frames

As I work on new frames this afternoon, I'm listening to an audio book, the story is Philip K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle and so far sounds really interesting... Can you imagine? An alternative future where the U.S and Allies lost the second world war, as a consequence we live under a government composed by Japanese and Nazi Germans, the U.S as we know doesn't exist anymore, slavery is back and germans are conquering the rest of the solar system with their super advanced plastic technology... A really, really scary alternative vision of the future.

Wires

Usually when drawing I like to keep all the original lines and very rarely, almost never I use an eraser. It's hard to explain, I just like the way it is... if the art is not working I simply trash the whole thing. Personally I believe the real test to make sure you are working on something good comes in the next day when with fresh eyes you look again and if when looking at it you still feel fine, so probably you are on the right track.

Finally my short comic book is here! The work was done in partnership with my friend Juliana Azevedo and you can find out more stuff in here. We hope you like it!

This small project was a fun exercise to do and if you know really well comics you'll be able to tell my main influences in this work...

After working over time for my day job, freelancing on some extra projects, doing my chores at home and trying to have some family time with my daughter and wife I tried to manage to render this short story... the goal was to paint one frame per night until finish up the whole thing... and I just did it!!! :)

Batman The Dark Knight

It's not a movie about super heroes, it's about detectives, cops, criminals... a crime movie for sure...Last night I had the chance to watch the new Batman's movie with some friends at the IMAX theater in Richmond and must say I'm really enjoying this new "real life" approach for the Dark Knight's movies... The Joker is by far the best character in the movie, scary, terribly smart and after all... different. If you are not into the Batman's world but want a quick overview to better understand the movie... try to read first these comic books: Batman Year One, The Killing Joke, Arkham Asylum and of course The Dark Knight Returns... you won't regret. Cheers!

KRAZY!

Just came back from Krazy! The Delirious World Of Anime + Comics + Video Games + Art exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Many examples of original sketches, notes, concept drawings, final production drawings, animation cells, three-dimensional models and published works. I was almost touching the originals on the walls with my nose trying to capture every single detail of those panels, for more information about the exhibition check it out here.
